Festival lighting designer

A festival LD is hired to protect creative intent under festival time pressure — not to invent looks at load-in.

Promoters and production managers search for a festival lighting designer when the set must read from the audience, survive changeovers and still match the brief that was approved weeks earlier.

What the role actually covers

Plot intent, fixture selection with the house/vendor package, offline programming on the production’s console ecosystem, focus notes and on-site operation. The deliverable is a show-ready file — not a mood board.

How Lightit runs festival sets

Brief → WYSIWYG/CAD preview → offline programming → load-in protection. Short festival slots get the same discipline as arenas: the approved file is what goes live.

When to hire Lightit

Headline artists, multi-act bills, brand stages and touring one-nighters that need an Istanbul-based studio with worldwide delivery. We are Lightit Company at lightit.co — live-event lighting, not lightit.io software.

Common questions

Is a festival lighting designer the same as a house LD?

Not always. A hired designer owns the creative file and on-site operation for that set; the house LD may operate console or support changeovers. Lightit delivers the designer file and can run the show live.

How early should we book?

As soon as the stage package and set length are known. Offline prep is what keeps festival changeovers calm.

Do you travel internationally?

Yes. Lightit Company delivers festival and concert lighting from Istanbul to stages worldwide.
